Sometimes you don’t need to travel to see nature in the raw. This winter, because of the freezing temperatures and heavy snowfalls, Fieldfare and Redwing came into gardens looking for food. This Fieldfare came in and promptly defended the store of apples on the lawn. Sadly, along came a Sparrowhawk after 30 mins or so – there’s nothing you can do, but accept it as it is.
There is a nicer side to birding in your garden. Robins are one of my favourite birds and especially in the long winter, they are always found singing, very often when it’s dark. Put a bit of food out and in they come.
Willow Tits are a bird not seen regularly nowadays – however they are partial to some fresh bird food.
