Monthly Archives: January 2013

Hello world…..

For those of you who know me, I'm still here and slowly recovering from the trauma of last October. I have been out a few times, mainly birding, some photography,  although to be honest the weather has been less than kind. Talking of kindness, of course I thank my family for their unreserved support, along with my work colleagues. Special thanks have to go to my birding friends, you all know who you are, without who, life would have been unbearable – thanks guys.

I have not updated my website for a while, but I have posted some work on my Flickr pages ( see above link ).  I have even renewed my Carsington Water parking permit and me and Hilton Pete have already used it a few times. A week in Norfolk in January was interesting,  re-visiting some haunts, but with poor weather, the telescope came out more than the camera. My highlight was the Sacred Ibis at Cley NWT Reserve.  The origin of this bird is speculated as Holland – I'll tick it even if it's not truly wild – it has feathers, wings and it flies, so it's definitely a bird.

A trip to WWT Martinmere was good, especially the new Mere Cafe food. Not too many winter swans, but lovely views of drake Pintails. Although captive, it's always good to get really close to some of those birds that in the wild would give only very distant views.

Willington, I have to say, has been a bit disappointing,  being flooded and unvisitable for a good 4-6 weeks over the new year. Recent visits have produced good numbers of ducks, with good numbers of Goldeneye, both drakes and females. It can only improve as spring approaches.

Of course, as everyone knows now, after Winterwatch,  the birds of the winter so far, are the unearthly-looking Waxwing. Beautiful birds, multicoloured, unafraid of humans and apparently everywhere.  I, like many other bird photographers, have taken 100's of shots of these great birds.

Anyway, a trip to Sweden approaches,  which should be good, although I'm told it will be very cold – I am prepared though. Hopefully some good images will be possible., fingers crossed.

Hopefully over the next few weeks I will update my site images and add a couple of blog entries.

Life will never be the same again, of that I'm sure, but something tells me that I should get out there and enjoy the life I've been given, so that's what I'll try and do.

So I'll see you all around sometime.
